Our clients needed to turn their two-bed bungalow into a family sized home. We achieved this by adding a full width extension to create an open plan kitchen/dining area and converting the loft with a rear dormer to add an additional two bedrooms. Previously they had no outlook on their garden which was accessed via the small conservatory, being used as an office. We flipped the ground floor plan so that the open plan living areas faced the garden separated by a full width bi-folding door which opens onto a new decking area.
During the planning process the application was put to the committee because of a concern from a neighbour diagonally opposite the garden that the loft conversion might cause an overlooking issue. We were able to demonstrate to the councillors that the scheme would have a minimal impact on neighbours, was acceptable in its scale, had similar precedents on the street and developed in a certain way could be classed as permitted development. They voted unanimously in our favour which allowed our clients to benefit from the wonderfully modern new space they have created in their home.
