Spacemaker Architects is an approachable residential architecture practice based in East Kent. We help homeowners create well-designed, practical and characterful places to live. Our projects range from modest extensions and internal alterations to complete renovations, conversions and bespoke new homes.
Every project starts with listening. We want to understand how you use your home now, what frustrates you and what you hope to achieve. Sometimes the answer is additional floor area. In other cases, a more thoughtful layout, better daylight or a stronger connection with the garden can transform the home without adding unnecessary space. Our aim is to create architecture that feels personal to its owners, appropriate to its setting and realistic to build.
Building work can be unfamiliar and sometimes daunting. We guide our clients through each stage in plain English, explaining the decisions, costs, risks and approvals involved.
We work in 3D from the outset so that you can see and understand the design as it develops. This collaborative approach allows us to test ideas together and resolve important decisions before construction begins.
Depending on your requirements, we can assist with:
Spacemaker Architects was founded in 2012 and is now led by partners Ben Roake and Louisa Clifford. From our base in East Kent, we work throughout Canterbury, Ashford, Whitstable, Folkestone, Dover, Faversham, Herne Bay and the surrounding rural areas. Our local experience helps us understand the varied character of Kent’s homes and settlements, from historic village properties and conservation areas to suburban houses and contemporary new-build sites.
Our charitable consultation scheme allows prospective clients to receive useful professional advice while supporting organisations working within the local community.
In return for our initial consultation and written advice, clients optionally make a £50 donation directly to one of our selected charities. Since the scheme began, more than £15,500 has been raised for good causes in East Kent.
Louisa, graduated from the University of Kent in 2012 with a first class Masters degree and successfully completed her final part 3 qualification at the University of Greenwich in April 2016.
